July 2025: Budget report

 July 2025 overview

After the major standing rigging overhaul—the biggest renovation yet—our spending has settled back to a "normal" range of around €3,000. Well, not exactly "normal," since our friends and son arrived in early July, inflating costs a bit. Hoping we can keep things steady in August.

Total spending reached €2891 for the month.

July 2025 details

This month's highlights:

- Friends arrived in Sardinia—great to have them aboard!
- Our son joined us for just under a month.
- Celebrated our son’s birthday in style!
- X5 new camera potentially lost (not counted in the budget). I’ll cover this from a separate personal account, possibly using referral gains from earlier this year. Still TBD.

July 2025 vs Budget

With six months into our sabbatical, we’ve spent a bit more than 81% of our total budget, leaving €19830 for the remaining six to seven months.

Repairs and Maintenance Budget:

- Original allocation: €20,000 for repairs and equipment (set after purchasing the boat under budget).
Spent to date: €19861 on repairs and equipment.
Remaining: €139 euros

However, upcoming expenses threaten to strain this budget:

Dinghy battery replacement: Estimated at €285. We haven’t bought it yet since we’re not staying long in one spot. Nico’s now talking about switching to a gas-powered engine, which I’m totally against. We could’ve sent the battery to Rome, our next stop, but Nico’s dragging his feet. I’m not rowing forever!

Potential weather vane purchase: Nico’s eyeing a €700 weather vane, unbudgeted. He hasn’t mentioned it this month, which is a relief—I’d rather spend that on our short Rome holiday with our son.

EPIRB beacon: Still haven’t bought the €700 beacon since we’re sticking to the coastline. I’m not keen on a transatlantic crossing, but Nico keeps bringing it up.

 Conclusion:
Six months in, we’ve nearly exhausted our €20,000 repair and equipment budget—not ideal with so many months left.
Repairs and maintenance make up 23% of our spending (down slightly, with only €100 spent this month).

Food spending jumped from 6% to 8%, thanks to our son’s visit and his birthday celebration. Expect costs to stay high as we navigate the Italian coastline.

Earnings:

None in July. Looks like referral bonuses were removed from websites during the sales..
